SUSTAINABILITY

We are committed to minimising the impact of our lives on the environment and operate as close to the circular economy model as possible.

Our home follows this waste management hierarchy:

  • Avoid or Refuse: we attempt to eliminate the use of any items that cannot be kept for later use, donated, recycled or recovered. We do not use single-use items.

  • Reuse or Repair: using a product again or re-purposing and repairing if required to avoid discarding.

  • Recycle: anything that cannot be reused will be recycled.

  • Recover: non-recyclable waste will be sent to energy recovery, where feasible

  • Dispose: as a last resort, waste that cannot be reused, recycled, or recovered is disposed of properly via the local authority. We aim for zero waste to landfill!

Some examples of how this is in practice

  • We source sustainably and locally.

  • All toiletries are from the Alternatives by Suma range and refilled at our local refill store

  • Our home is primarily solar powered

  • We have an E-V Charging Point available for guest electric car use (you just pay for the electricity used)

If you are travelling here by train then we will collect you from Kirkby Stephen or Appleby railway station free of charge.
